Actions Taken
The anti suffragists had several paths of action for taking down the suffragists and what they stood for. These actions were taken to counter those of the suffrage movement. For example, in 1870 anti-suffragists in Washington D.C. founded the Anti-Sixteenth Amendment Society in response to a suffragist push for an amendment supporting the vote for women. As seen in the first image below, the Anti-Suffrage Party of New York even drafted a petition sent to the United States Senate in 1917 to stop the passage of the amendment, which was gaining more support during the time of the first World War. The second image shown is another letter put out by a New York Anti society, The New York State Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage. The second image explains that women should not be given the vote, because most women did not want it in the first place.
